Installing Ubuntu on LG E510

This laptop is operating under the default Kernel from Ubuntu 8.10 wich is 2.6.27

Basic Installation of Ubuntu:

Use it because it works. There aren't any problems with software, everything works smoothly; one exception is this wi-fi driver which you can fix easily
Obtaining Ubuntu: just go to Ubuntu Homepage
Boot with live CD and click install. Then apply the windows method: "just click yes". Graphical installation is as easy as kid's play. It's even easier when you're installing from Windows level. Ubuntu has this wubi thing wich allows you to install 2 operating systems separately. Installation took 45 minutes approximately
Post-Install modifications/tweaks: There is a problem with Atheros wi-fi card. But it can be easily solved using the resouces found on the internet. Basicaly you have to unactivate the exisitng driver and install the new one (ath 5000) I've tried the solution with madwifi but as far as I know the ndiswrapper option works too. Everything works great: it even sees the other windows PC via wirelss network

This laptop works great. It's actually used by my girlfriend and she didn't see any incovenients. Ubuntu offers a great support for hardware and everything works great: She uses a tablet, a wireless USB mouse and all this stuff works "plug and play". If you encounter any problems write to me qrjusz (at) gmail (dot) com. I speak english, french, spanish and polish so hopefully there won't be any problems with communication
